During the holiday season, please be careful. The following information is an extract from a brochure provided by the Houston Police Department:
The first rule is to be aware of your surroundings!
Avoid Walking Alone, and stay away from dark streets. Avoid short cuts through deserted areas.
Avoid Street Solicitors, trying to sell you something at a bargain price.
Stay Alert and attuned to the things going on around you.
Park in a Well Lighted Area so that you can see your car and its surroundings from as far as possible.
Have Your Car Keys Ready before you approach the car so you do not make yourself vulnerable while searching for the right key.
Always Lock All Doors whether you are in or out of your car. Keep all windows rolled up enough so an arm cannot be inserted through the opening.
If You Have a Car Phone, once you are in the car and have locked the doors, dial 911 on your phone so that in an emergency you need only hit the "Send" button.
If you Think Someone is Following You, do not go home. Drive to the nearest police or fire station, open gasoline station or well lighted place where there should be people to help you.
We hope you have a safe and happy holiday season.
